As communities seek more sustainable ways to build, power, and maintain infrastructure, the demand for professionals with renewable energy and environmental technology skills continues to grow. 

CCC’s Environmental Technology programs combine hands-on training with technical coursework in alternative energy, sustainable building practices, design, and construction methods. You’ll develop practical skills in solar and wind energy systems, energy-efficient building technologies, project planning, and construction fundamentals while learning from industry professionals and gaining real-world field experience. 

 

Program Options

Environmental Technology offers a stackable pathway that allows you to build your credentials over time — entering the workforce after a certificate and continuing toward a degree when you’re ready. 

 

Environmental Technology: Alternative Energy Intermediate Certificate 

Build foundational skills in construction methods, electrical systems, building safety, and alternative energy technologies. This certificate introduces concepts such as passive solar design, home building, community development, and sustainable construction practices. 

Credential: 19 Credit Hours 

 

Environmental Technology: Alternative Energy Advanced Certificate 

Expand your knowledge of renewable energy technologies, construction economics, drafting, blueprint reading, and electrical systems while developing more advanced skills in solar and wind energy applications. 

Credential: 45 Credit Hours 

 

Environmental Technology: Alternative Energy Technician AAS 

This workforce-focused degree prepares students for careers in alternative energy and sustainable construction through a combination of classroom learning, field workshops, and hands-on technical training alongside local contractors and industry professionals. Students may apply credit hours earned through the Construction Technology Certificate toward completion of this degree. 

Credential: 70 Credit Hours 

 

Stackable Credentials 

Environmental Technology offers a flexible, stackable pathway. The Intermediate Certificate provides foundational skills and can be completed quickly, while the Advanced Certificate builds on those skills with more technical coursework. Both certificate pathways build toward the Environmental Technology: Alternative Energy Technician AAS degree, so your earlier coursework is never wasted. Certificate credits from the Construction Technology Certificate may also be applied toward the AAS degree. 

You can enter the workforce after earning a certificate and return to continue your education when your goals or schedule allow.

Environmental Technology programs are primarily workforce-focused credentials designed to prepare students for employment. Transfer options may be limited depending on the program. Students interested in continuing their education toward a bachelor’s degree should meet with an academic advisor to explore available university transfer options and determine the best pathway for their goals. 

CCC participates in transfer partnerships with Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University, the University of Arizona, and Grand Canyon University.

Featured Coursework 

Building the Human Environment 

Explore how architecture, construction, and community design influence human behavior, quality of life, and the built environment. Examine the ways climate, culture, and history shape the places where people live and work, and gain insight into how residential design responds to environmental and community needs. 

Solar Home Design 

Learn the principles of passive solar design and apply them through hands-on projects focused on energy-efficient home construction and solar heating systems. Students design projects for real-world solar home heating applications. 

House Wiring 

Develop foundational electrical skills while learning basic electrical theory, wiring methods, safety practices, and residential construction applications. Students practice wiring real-world circuits with receptacles, switches, and lighting fixtures. 

 

Industry Certifications 

Environmental Technology coursework may prepare students for industry-recognized credentials including: 

OSHA 10 

OSHA 30 

EPA 608 Certification (Environmental Protection Agency)
